Casino strike looms amid talks

September 30, 2004 could be tough hours for 14,500 casino hotel workers, who are set to strike, if the contract agreement does not reach between their union and the city's casinos. A deadline of 1st October was set by the board members of Local 54 of the Hotel Employees International Union to give all possible chance at averting a walkout.

A tentative five-year contract agreement was reached between 10,000 striking casino-hotel workers and the corporations that employ them in Atlantic City. The deal was struck on 1 November 2004 between Local 54 of Unite Here and the seven of 12 Atlantic City casinos where workers had walked off the job on 1 October 2004.
