Earnings skyrocket at Unisys

Article Abstract:

Blue Bell-based Unisys first quarter profits for 1999 were high with a net of $88.4 million and revenues of $1,812.4 million. Soaring profits were associated with the Y2K problem as companies buy new servers and other hardware related to the year 2000 conversion. Unysis services' sector business that does consulting developing software and network setups also increased (13%) this quarter. However, CEO Lawrence A. Weinbach, sees profits decreasing at the latter half of the year as most companies will be up to Y2K compliance.
