Emmet and Toni Stephenson

Article Abstract:

Emmet and Toni Stephenson were frustrated with the responses during the Hurricane Katrina devastation in Louisiana. The Stephensons, who were Bastrop, Louisiana natives and Louisiana State University (LSU) alumni, announced a $25 million gift to LSU, with $11 million of which going to the establishment of Stephenson Disaster Management Institute (SDMI), a center that will research and train on emergency responses. Emmet Stephenson is founder of private equity firm Stephenson and Co.

Jeffrey A. Joerres, chairman of Manpower Inc. stated that when people feel that the economy is improving they buy the employment company stocks and when they feel the economy is not going strong they sell the stocks. A growing economy makes staffing stocks popular because there is more need for worker-placement services from temporary staffing to recruitment help.
