Franklin Electronic looks at cuts as income tumbles

Article Abstract:

Franklin Electronic Publishers Inc (Burlington, NJ) announced that it is considering cuts in its product line to combat declining income. Franklin's 2nd qtr 1998 earnings were $41,000, down from $1.5 mil in 2nd qtr 1997. Franklin blamed severance payments and a shortfall in investment income for the steep decline. CEO H. Andrew Cross did not specify which of Franklin's over 200 products might be cut, but said the company would seek to concentrate on the most profitable areas. Franklin makes handheld electronic reference books and organizers, including the Bookman electronic book series.
