Hospital to close inpatient facilities; Germantown Hospital will move its acute-care beds to the Albert Einstein Medical Center

Germantown Hospital is planning to begin moving its acute-care beds to the Albert Einstein Medical Center in summer 1999. Parts of the Philadelphia hospital will be turned into a 180-bed skilled nursing facility for long-term care. Germantown Hospital will continue its physician services, ambulatory surgery, and emergency services. Germantown Hospital and Community Health Services CEO David Ricci says the hospital would need to underwrite a loss of over $1 million to operate the acute-care beds through Jun 30, 2000.

Surgeon's defamation suit thrown out

Article Abstract:

A surgeon, Thomas B. Gain's seven-year old battle against Heinemann University Hospital, alleging that it had wrongly restricted him from operating, ended in July 2004, when a Philadelphia judge ruled against him. Thomas argued that the hospital and its surgical leadership had barred him from doing certain operations in order to steal his patients and surgical fees.
