How migrants help fund U.S. citizens' pensions

Article Abstract:

Some members of the US Congress are working to ensure that undocumented migrant workers do not benefit from the Social Security they pay, which is about $3.35 billion annually. Experts feel money from the 'earnings suspense file', a catchall Social Security account for mismatched names that is mostly funded by illegal workers, is rolled into the agency's general fund, where it would be used to fund pensions for American citizens.

Visas are filling a low-wage labor void

Article Abstract:

Unskilled non-agricultural foreign workers are increasingly finding seasonal labor thanks to changes in a U.S. immigration law. The U.S. State Department issued almost 63,000 such visas, just short of the 66,000 limit. However, some critics claim these workers are being exploited. Others claim that they fill a void.
