How much radium is safe in N.J.?

Article Abstract:

Water taken from wells in southern New Jersey have been found to be contaminated with radium. At least 33 percent of 170 sampled wells in the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer were found to have levels that exceeded minimal federal standards. The discovery comes on the heals of recently detected form of radium called radium 224. State officials are at odds with the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action over interpretation of the 1984 New Jersey clean water. The law mandates that levels of known carcinogens are to to be reduced in drinking water to non-life threatening levels.
