IMS Health being acquired by TriZetto Group

TriZetto Group Inc. will acquire Westport, Conn.-based IMS Health Inc., which is a pharmaceutical-industry information company, for about at $4.9 billion. Newport Beach, Calif.-based TriZetto, which is an Internet health-care company, will improve IMS' market position in the areas of electronic commerce, health-care information services and market research.

Genesis obtains reprieve on debt

Kennett Square, Penn.-based Genesis Health Ventures Inc., which is behind in debt payments to a group of lenders led by Mellon Bank, has been granted a sixty day extension for a $3.8 million senior debt interest payment. Genesis Health has hired Merrill Lynch and Co. to study a restructuring of the health care company's assets.
