Big loss prompts job cuts at Ikon

Ikon Office Solutions (Valley Forge, PA) will cut jobs, due to fourth quarter losses, restructuring of the company, settlement of lawsuits, and executive severance pay. Ikon expects most of the job cuts to occur in 1999, and might involve 5 percent of the company, mainly through attrition. The company's business service unit is expected to loose 1,500. The document services unit is expected to loose 500 people. The company is continuing to restructure itself, including closing six field offices; hire PricewaterhouseCoopers to propose additional cost cutting measures.
