PNI agrees to sell idle Broad St. site

New York, NY-based Goldman Sachs and Co. has acquired a Philadelphia building from Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. PNI, which owns The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News, sold the 4-story, 600,000-square-foot building building for $8 million.

Two law firms in city plan to merge

Article Abstract:

Philadelphia, Penn.-based Schnader Harrison Segal and Lewis, which is a litigation specialist, will acquire Center City, Penn.-based rival Mesirov Gelman Jaffe Cramer and Jamieson for undisclosed terms. The merger, which will create a nationwide firm with 325 lawyers, represents a wave of consolidation sweeping the legal industry.

Kvaerner may face tough sale; new Philadelphia shipyard is stranded in uncertainty

Article Abstract:

Kvaerner Group is in talks with several potential buyers of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, but maritime analysts think the yard will be difficult to sell. Kvaerner plans to divest itself of its 13 shipyards by the end of 1999. Norwegian conglomerate Aker RGI is the only potential buyer to have announced its interest in the Philadelphia operations. Other potential buyers are thought to include Italy's Fincatieri, Chantlers de L'Atlantique of France. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has expressed interest in Kvaerner's Finnish shipyards.
