Political jambalaya

Article Abstract:

Johnny Berthelot, mayor of Gonzales, Louisiana, vetoed the motion to pay $31,615 in public money to Malcolm Dugas, the city's bond counsel. Three out of five councilmen voted in favor of the motion, which was considered to be illegal by Berthelot. The mayor and two councilmen believe that the $60,000 which was previously paid to Dugas' firm already covered all the work that was carried out for the city's project.
