Pizza makers hit by higher cheese prices

Article Abstract:

Pizza makers in the US have been adversely affected by the steadily rising price of cheese. Varol Ablak, president and CEO of Pizza Outlet, said that price per pound of the commodity has risen from$1.18 at the end of April 1998 to $1.65 in early August 1998. A manager of Unique Pizza Factory said that there is no doubt that the price increases has generally reduced the company's profits. Papa John's International Inc., a Louisville, KY-based pizza company, said it has built some flexibility in its pricing to accomodate price fluctuations of ingredients and materials.

Small video stores ready to sue big boys

Article Abstract:

Blockbuster and Hollywood Video will be sued in the next 30 days by a group of independent video retailers called the Independent Video Retailers Group. The group, led by its president Bob Webb, will challenge the selling agreements made by the major studios to the largest video rental chains which they contend to have unfair trade advantages such as little or no acquisition costs plus a favorable percentage of rental fees. Smaller independent retailers, on the other hand, pay about $70 for every tape.
