Science, commerce mixing well at Penn: University center turns ideas into enterprises

Article Abstract:

P. Peter Ghoroghchian, University of Pennsylvania's doctoral student, is among the many researchers pitching their innovations to prospective investors and business managers. Bringing Ghoroghchian team's invention, named Fluorocell to market is the task of Penn's Center for Technology Transfer that has helped start 14 companies in 2003, and licenses other ideas to existing firms.

Funeral sector on downbeat

The decrease in death rates every year has resulted in low revenue, scarce profit of the nations big companies that run thousands of funeral homes, cemeteries and crematoria around the country. Due to this Loewen, the second largest death-care company went into bankruptcy in 1999, emerging in 2002 as Alderwoods group Inc., of Cincinnati.
