U.S. airlines doing whatever it takes to cut this year's soaring fuel costs

Article Abstract:

Fuel budgets that have climbed by $3 billion this year have made the nation's airlines to cut flight speeds, shorten routes and modify planes to squeeze savings. The rise in the cost of jet fuel is due to the soaring crude-oil prices, which have risen by about one-third in the last year to more than $40 a barrel.

Big airlines' woes top investors' list of market worries

Decrease in the prices, hefty fuel costs, challenging labor negotiations, and mounting pension obligations are some of the problems faced by the airline industry. Airline stock prices have declined since January 1, 2005 amid reduced earnings and fare cuts that were made to lure back business fliers.

Fuel prices, low fares crush airlines' hopes

The impact of soaring fuel prices and a weak revenue environment on the American airlines industries, as on 20th October 2004 is mentioned. According to analyst Jamie Baker of J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. in New York, the American airlines would lose $1.2 billion at the end of 2004.
