Small business consultants: improving the delivery of outside assistance

Article Abstract:

A model illustrating how small business consultants' services can be used most effectively was derived from an analysis of the literature published on the subject between 1976 and 1989. The superior performance of small businesses that employ consultants underscored the need for such a model. The model comprises effective outside services such as analysis and guidance which the consulting relationship channels to functional areas such as marketing; these functional areas then produce positive outcomes based on improved business performance.

FASB damage control for small and medium-sized firms: a strategy to influence rule-making

Article Abstract:

Small and medium-sized accounting firms can influence rules proposed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in order to direct the outcome of proposed rules and to minimize the cost of the proposed rules on the firms. Large organizations can effectively lobby for themselves, but smaller firms can achieve substantial benefit through the use of representational lobbying organizations. The opportunities and benefits of using certain devices and strategies to influence rule-making via lobbyists are discussed.
