Income, spending post solid increases

Article Abstract:

Reports from the Washington Commerce Department reveal that consumers in Washington increased their spending in April 2004 by a solid 0.3 percent supporting that economic growth is strengthening. The report also stated that Americans' incomes rose by a strong 0.6 percent in April 2004, the largest monthly gain since January 2001.

Smaller spending increase in Feb.

Article Abstract:

Consumers were more restrained in February 2004 where they increase their spending by only 0.2 percent. Analyst feels that the tax refunds during the spring and extra cash coming from home-mortgages refinancings might give consumers an incentive to spend more.
