Zany? Not quite, as chain makes debut on Wall St

Article Abstract:

King of Prussia, Penn.-based Zany Brainy, a retailer of children's software, toys and books, has received good response from its initial public offering (IPO). Zany Brainy, which has 1,700 employees and 82 stores in 23 states, plans to use the new capital to open more stores throughout the country, move into e-commerce on the Internet, and pay off its debt. Industry analysts have described the national toy market as volatile.

Zany Brainy files for bankruptcy under Chapter 11

Article Abstract:

King of Prussia, PA-based toy retailer Zany Brainy has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. A $9 million loss at an Internet venture while attempting to open 27 Zany Brainy stores, as well as its acquisition of Noodle Kidoodle are cited as reasons for the company's failure.

FAO Inc. toy story reachers scary part

On Monday, January 13, 2003, FAO Inc. again filed for bankruptcy. The reason given was slow sales during the holidays. FAO Inc. owns FAO Schwarz, Zany Brainy, and Right Start.
