A firm grip

Article Abstract:

Successive surveys have shown that accountants, particularly chartered accountants hold a tight grip on Finance Director's (FD's) posts in the UK's top companies. The vast majority of FDs in the FTSE 100 are qualified accountants, but for the first year, the number of accountants in the top finance job has remained steady since 2005, and in spite of a number of changes in the constituents of the FTSE 100, 80 of the 99 FDs are still qualified accountants.
