Media-buying shops are offer an alternative to full-service advertising agencies. These shops specialize in aggressive media buying and very low pricing. Whether a full service agency or a media buying shop results in more effective advertising depends on the product or service to be advertised, and in what medium. The full-service agency offers one-stop shopping for any kind of advertising; the media-buying shop offers specialization. The best approach is to shop around and place the advertising account with the right creative individuals, regardless of their employer.

New product development (NPD) specialists serve both a tactical and strategic role in their organizations. The role of NPD specialists is not always clearly understood, however. Contrary to popular opinion, these specialists do not spend their time 'brainstorming'. The approaches used in new product development include: new product generation, redeveloping existing products, international development, joint ventures, and acquisitions.
