A perspective on work system analysis: classification and evaluation of methods

Article Abstract:

An inclusive, generic model for work system analysis was described and related to available scientific literature on job analysis techniques. Techniques were grouped into comprehensive, microassessment and macroassessment methods. Comprehensive methods incorporated components of both microassessment and macroassessment methods and address many components of the inclusive model. Microassessment methods focused on a component subset of the model, while macroassessment methods more extensively evaluated a subset of the component areas.

Changes in physical capacity as a function of age in heavy manual work

Article Abstract:

The changes in the physical capacity is assessed as a function of age in power line technicians (PLTs) Further, a physical test was designed to closely represent the essential physical tasks of the occupation that were identified through a detailed job demand analysis. The study reveals that the older PLTs meet and exceed the physical requirements necessary to carry out the essential tasks of this trade.

Task frequency as a function of age for the powerline technician trade

Article Abstract:

The task requirements of the power line technician (PLT) occupation were determined through the use of a detailed job demand analysis (JDA) and the frequency at which these tasks were performed was acquired through the survey derived from the JDA. Despite the high physical demands of the PLT trade, the older PLTs were found to perform all the tasks required to achieve a satisfactory level of work.
