A self-sufficient financial community

Article Abstract:

The financial services industry in Manchester, England, has a central role in the economy of northern England. Small and medium firms are sources of growth for accountants, venture capitalists and merchant banks. Accountants are finding competition fierce and annual reviews of companies' choices of auditors cause concern. Financial services companies are increasingly offering more than one type of service, with banks offering advice on corporate finance and a stock broker offering venture capital services.

Strangers in the city

Article Abstract:

The English North West Tourist Board is seeking to promote any event in Manchester which could attract tourists. Income from tourism is becoming increasingly important in the region. The local economy has been affected by changes in the world economy which have reduced demand for Manchester's manufacturing exports. Manchester aims to diversify to avoid the consequences of depending heavily on a single sector which could then collapse, as did manufacturing.
