A two-for-one in tomato nutritional enhancement

Article Abstract:

A more nutritious tomato is created using the metabolic engineering strategy based on tissue-specific downregulation of a single endogenous gene encoding a developmental transcription factor to simultaneously upregulate two metabolically distinct groups of natural products. This is done by simultaneously increasing the plant antioxidant phytonutrinets produced by the terpenoid and phenylpropanoid pathways.
