ABP has it sewn up

Article Abstract:

Associated British Ports (ABP) owns 22 ports located throughout the UK, some of which hold a near monopoly. The company also holds joint-ownership of Southampton and Tilbury terminals. ABP should benefit from the UK economic recovery, since port volumes tend to rise with gross domestic product. Clients have minimum contracts of 10 years, and the largest client is British Steel. ABP should benefit from investment in a ferry terminal at Immingham, and a new cold store business in Cardiff.

Powell Duffryn

Article Abstract:

Powell Duffryn is an engineering firm which is also involved in United Kingdom ports. The company's engineering activities have been hit by the high value of pound sterling though the businesses have strong positions in their markets. The ports business is performing better and is helped by an increase in world trade and a recovering domestic economy. The company has better operating margins at Tees and Hertlepool than at its Humberside port.
