AT&T reaches out to Russian execs; after intial hang-up, mailing succeeds inmaking the right connections

AT&T Co's maiden direct mail campaign in Moscow has proven successful despitethe numerous problems encountered. The campaign sought to replace Russia's dated phones with AT&T's business telephone systems. The firm targetted Russiancompanies with hard currency accounts and drew up a list of more than 5,000 company directors. YAR Communications Inc, a New York-based multilingual marketing communications agency, directed the campaign for AT&T.

Business press bridging the pond

US publishers are intensifying their efforts abroad, particularly in Europe. The renewed interest for the European market was prompted by the political and economic changes occurring in that region. Several publishing firms that have increased their focus on European operations are presented. The publishers include Cahners Inc, Chilton Co, CMP, International Data Group, Intertec Publishing Corp, Maclean Hunter Publishing Co and Ziff-Davis.

CompuWho? rolls out 1st national campaign

CompuAdd Computer Corp (CompuAdd) utilized humor in its efforts to gain consumer attention in its first national marketing campaign. Although CompuAdd was founded in 1982 and is fairly popular among data processing managers, upper management executives are unaware of it. The campaign is CompuAdd's attempt to counter its obscure image.
