Ace detective

Article Abstract:

City Technology Holdings ranks first in the world market for electronic gas sensors. The company produces customized designs in collaboration with instrument makers. New products such as equipment for testing car exhaust fumes should help boost demand for City Technology's products. The company's medical sensors are being tested and could be marketed from 1997. The company benefits from high operating margins since reliability is the key issue rather than price. City's profit is forecast at 8.4 million pounds sterling for 1998.

Dewhurst: going up

Article Abstract:

Dewhurst is a UK manufacturer of controls equipment which has a strong record of good performance in terms of dividends and profits. The company should benefit from the privatization of the UK railroad network, and railroads account for some 15% of its turnover. Elevator equipment accounts for 60% of the company's sales, and Dewhurst is seeking to boost exports. UK sales are likely to be affected by restrictions on spending for local government.
