The sales appeared to have been prompted by tax considerations but five insiders submitted their intention to sell 68,000 shares last Jan 1993 at the $19 level. The amount of insider selling suggests caution regarding the firm's fundamentals.

Adaptec Inc produces input/output components used in controlling data flow between microcomputers and peripherals. There was no insider accumulation in Oct 1992 when the issue plunged from $31 to $19.50. The insiders cleared out some shares as the price recovered. Four insiders sold almost 49,000 shares in Jan 1993 at the $30.25 level before the issue declined to the $24 level. A guarded attitude is suggested.
