Affordable fleet reform proposal would affect ship programs

Article Abstract:

The Navy fleet transformation proposal would affect the next generation DD(X) destroyer program. It might also remove the Navy surface ship construction work from the General Dynamics Corp. shipbuilding unit, Bath Iron Works (BIW), and consolidate submarine work at one yard, which might be GD Electric Boat (EB).

DD(X) decision by Congress bolsters economy, but effect muted

Article Abstract:

The 2006 defense authorization bill authorized the production of DD(X) destroyer to Northrop Grumman Corporation and General Dynamics Corporation. Although this contract is a political victory for the Maine congressional delegation and its Bath Iron works constituency, shipbuilding jobs are decreasing.
