Ageing and activity: Their effects on the functional reserve capacities of the heart and vascular smooth and skeletal muscles

Article Abstract:

The known age-related changes in the functional integrity of cardiac, vascular smooth and skeletal muscle is described to indicate how habitual physical activity could prevent, retard or reverse these changes. Long-term participation in endurance-based activities helps to preserve cardiac reserve, and has both direct and indirect beneficial effects on vascular smooth muscle and health preservation within cardiovascular system.

Aerobic and anaerobic profiles, heart rate and match analysis in older soccer players

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the aerobic and anaerobic profiles of older soccer players, and the physiological load and technical aspects of their soccer matches. The older soccer players who trained and played friendly match twice a week succeeded in maintaining good aerobic and anaerobic physical capabilities when compared with those reported for sedentary and physically active older individuals.

The impact of aerobic training upon left ventricular morphology and function in pre-pubescent children

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the nature of the left ventricular (LV) response to endurance training in pre-pubertal male and female children. The data findings suggest that training in pre-pubescent children does not influence LV morphology and function within the current population.
