Agricultural wind erosion and air quality impacts: a comprehensive research program

Article Abstract:

A multidisciplinary, multi-agency research plan has been designed and implemented in the Columbia Plateau, eastern Washington State, to study and control air quality degradation due to wind erosion. The degradation of air quality in downwind urban areas of western US is attributed to wind erosion and particulate emissions from upwind agricultural lands. Particulates of size 10 micron and smaller have been found in higher concentrations in these regions than is permitted by law.
