The Fast Read-out Optical Storage Technology (FROST) Consortium, Inc., San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $6,874,359 technology-investment-agreement/other-transaction contract ($5,534,562, Government Portion; $1,339,797, Contractor Portion) to provide for development and demonstration of a high speed optical disk record and read-out head for use in next-generation memory systems. An Other Transaction is a special acquisition method to develop prototype projects for which most procurement laws and the Federal Acquisition Regulation do not apply, thus allowing greater flexibility in meeting government requirements. Expected contract completion date is Sept. 15, 2002. Solicitation issue date was Aug. 22, 1997. Negotiationcompletion date was Sept. 10, 1997. Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome, NY, is the contracting activity (F30602-98-3-0226).
