Air Force needs tanker plane serving multiple roles

Article Abstract:

The Air Force General Norton Schwartz, commander of the US Transportation Command has stated that the Air Force requires new aerial refueling tanker aircraft that can also perform other missions, such as logistics and troop transport. There are the Boeing KC-767, the Airbus A-330 commercial airliner and C-17 transport aircraft of Boeing, but any transport asset must be within an overall requirement that fits into the total universe of military and private transport platforms.

General: Air Force not lacking tankers in Iraq; C-130Js 'wonderful'

Article Abstract:

A three-star Air Force general has stated that the Air Force has no shortages of aerial refueling tanker aircraft in Iraq, even though the aging planes might require extensive maintenance. The Air Force is getting by with restrictions on aging C-130 transport aircraft, but new C-130J transport planes would be an added advantage for the US forces.

Sambur defends Raptor, tanker need, and his record
