Analysts: Humans, not weapons platforms, key to new war

Article Abstract:

The defense analysts have stated that some Pentagon leaders are too focused on using major weapons platforms in the global war on terrorism instead of depending on the Special Operations Forces (SOF) that are able to perform well in the new era of irregular warfare. SOF forces are self-sufficient small units that are best suited for destroying an enemy operating in small cells and they can produce immense results compared to the limited size of their units.

Win-Win? Bush touts deficit cuts, but defense programs may survive

Article Abstract:

US President George W. Bush's federal government budget indicates the budget deficit being cut in half from the current fiscal year ending 30 September 2005, through fiscal 2011, which is partly because of major reductions in outlays for weapons platforms. The proposed budget cuts for some of the major military programs have made many lawmakers and defense contractors very unhappy.
