Congress passes defense appropriations bill funding weapons

Article Abstract:

The House has passed the defense appropriations bill for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2006, that funds the entire Department of Defense (DOD) weapons procurement programs. The House version of the bill included language permitting oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), but the Senate version of the bill has stripped out the ANWR provision, and hence the House had to agree to that version of the bill before it could gain final passage.

Report: DHS needs revamping, fund shifts

Article Abstract:

A Heritage Foundation report suggested that Congress should pass the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reform legislation no later than 2007-2008 session, to correct bureaucratic bloating, and turf warfare among once-independent agencies. The reform should mention that agencies should directly report to the homeland security secretary, through the deputy secretary.
