Canada should double defense spending rise, buy weapons from allies

Article Abstract:

A top Canadian Senate Committee reported that Canada needs to double the increase in its already-expanded defense budget and concentrate as much on procurement as on troop recruitment. The chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security, Sen. Colin Kenny reported that there is an urgent need to update all of Canadian military hardware, whether for the army, navy or air force.

Conservatives vow boost for Canada's navy

Article Abstract:

The Conservative Party vowed to increase the Canadian military budget by $Can.5.3 billion over the next five years, if it wins the January 23, 2006 general elections. Some of the improvements promised include to increase navy personnel by 500, purchase a new transport ship and a new supply ship and to replace Canada's aging destroyers and frigates.

Canadian lawmakers urge major increase in military outlays

Article Abstract:

The Canadian lawmakers have urged the federal government to increase the military spending for the Canadian Armed Forces. The army might get a major increase in budget, whereas the navy and air force programs might not get the funds that are required for restructuring.
