US economy able to support defense spending, including procurement

Several renowned experts are of the view that the $12.5 trillion-a-year US economy can afford to spend defense spending, including outlays for weapons procurement. Experts James Jay Carafano, Lindsey, Lawrence, James Miller and Baker Spring who participated at a Heritage panel forum on defense spending and economic prosperity were unanimous in the support regarding US' affordability towards defense spending without harming its economy.

Whether Bush or Kerrry wins, defense programs face cuts

Article Abstract:

Caivon Rumohr of SG Cowen Securities Corporation stated that whether President Bush or Sen. John Kerry wins the White House in the November 2004 presidential election, major defense programs likely would face cuts in 2005. It was revealed that there is going to be great budget pressure for cutting or eliminating defense programs after the soaring military spending that marked the start of the war on terrorism.

Senate seen likely to remain in Republican hands

Article Abstract:

A paper posted by the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, predicts that the Republican Party might retain control of the Senate in the upcoming 2006 elections in the US. The Republican Party has provided a 49.7 percent increase in total defense spending over the past five years, but has not provided the same bonanza for the defense contractors.
