England says littoral combat ships needed for missions

Article Abstract:

The proposed fleet of 60 Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) is considered as unneeded, expensive redundancy by some military analysts. However, Navy Secretary, Gordon England is supportive of the fleet as he feels that this small coaster fighter will be economical in the long run as at a much lower life cycle cost it will replace soon to be retired surface platforms, currently fulfilling littoral missions and it will provide an array of assets to perform each type of mission.
