Conservation of gene expression signatures between zebrafish and human liver tumors and tumor progression

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of microarray data from zebrafish liver tumors with those from four human tumor types is presented. The results of the analysis demonstrate the potential of applying comparative transcriptome profile analysis of phylogenetically distant species to the identification of expression signatures that have a strong association with a disease phenotype and whose evolutionary conservation emphasizes their fundamental importance and clinical potential.

Chemical suppression of a genetic mutation in a zebrafish model of aortic coarctation

Article Abstract:

The zebrafish mutation gridlock disrupts the aortic blood flow in a region and physiological manner similar to aortic coarctation in humans. A whole-organism, phenotype-based, small-molecule screen is used to discover a class of compounds that suppress the forestation phenotype and permit survival to adulthood.

Overcoming the gridlock in discovery research

Article Abstract:

Disease models are created to directly screen compounds that can ameliorate the disease state with the help of a zebrafish mutant with an anatomical defect that resembles a malformation in the human heart. Compounds that rescue the abnormal vascular development of a zebrafish mutant are described.
