Structural genomics and its importance for gene function analysis

Article Abstract:

The determination of all possible protein folds is the goal of structural genomics. This new approach as opposed to traditional structural biology, prioritizes the determination of the protein structure prior to discovering the function.

Putting proteins on the map

Article Abstract:

A new approach for mapping the subcellular location of hundreds of proteins and identifying proteins that share subcellular location patterns in single cells or tissue sections is described. Detailed knowledge of the spatiotemporal distribution of all proteins expressed in a given cell type is critical to understanding the way cell type behaves and to building computational models that stimulate cell behavior.

Analyzing proteome topology and function by automated multidimensional fluorescence microscopy

Article Abstract:

A multidimensional microscopic robot technology for high-throughput protein colocalization studies that runs cycles of fluorescence tagging, imaging and bleaching in situ is described. Results reveal rules of hierarchical protein network organization, in which the frequency distribution of different protein clusters obeys Zipf's law, and state-specific lead proteins appear to control protein network topology and function by analyzing many cell and tissue types.
