Apple girds for PC wars by retooling prices, distribution

Article Abstract:

Apple Computer Inc is up-dating its marketing strategies by selling its new products known as Macintosh Performa computers through new distribution channels such as mass merchants, mail order and direct sales to corporations. The 2000 retail outlets which carry the Performa line of computers are ll chains including Sears, Montgomery Ward, Circuit City and Office Depot. The features offered by the new Apple computers include built-in CD-ROM players for multimedia computing, new models of the Power-Book notebook computer and a new version of the Macintosh that serves as desktop and notebook machine.

Cyrix reckons PCs will aid high-speed chip sales

Article Abstract:

Semiconductor manufacturer Cyrix Corp. has developed a direct response marketing strategy designed to promote its new line of personal computers. Cyrix VP Steve Tobak believes that their 6x86 computers would play an important role in creating awareness for the 6x86 processors. Cyrix has acquired the services of Rizzuti, beckman & Lyman for the development of a color advertising insert.

HP returns to television with a bang

Article Abstract:

Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) has begun a television advertising campaign after an absence of five years. HP aims to increase consumer awareness of its products as an alternative to the larger computer makers. The campaign is being run by Saatchi & Saatchi using the theme 'think again.' At present, a spot entitled 'The Thinker' has been shot and is due to begin airing soon.
