Article Abstract:

Why auditors are being reduced to chocolate eclairs

Article Abstract:

Lawyers prefer a rules-based system of business as it guarantees that managements would constantly come to them for a ruling, as compared to a principles-based system, under which decisions can be made without recourse to lawyers. The same 'rules or principles' debate is moving across the Atlantic to the UK, where rules over principles is slowly depriving auditors of the ability to make judgments and putting them in thrall to the lawyers.
