Argos has seen a rise in sales for 1st half 1996, and is opening 30 new stores during the year. The company spent around 127 million pounds sterling on giving a special dividend and this has affected interest income, but the company has emough cash for an acquisition. A pilot store will be set up in the Netherlands for 1998. The company has cut costs by direct imports bypassing wholesalers and has reduced prices while raising margins. The company's profit is forecast at 152 million pounds sterling for 1996 by Mees Pierson.
