Bids and asks in disequilibrium market microstructure: the case of IBM

Article Abstract:

A model is developed to analyze Brock and Kleidon's continuous auction theory of specialist pricing. Two simultaneous autoregressive equations for ask and bid prices are derived using IBM transaction data in 1988. Results show that increased trading volume increases the ask and decreases the bid. Increased price volatility within a 15 minute interval also reduces both bids and asks as buyers are provided a risk premium.
