Look back in disbelief

Article Abstract:

SmithKline Beecham's LYMErix should add up to $500 mill a year of new revenue by 2005. The company also over 50 other medicines in various stages of clinical trial, some of which are potentially much bigger than LYMErix. However the company only added 8% to pharmaceutical sales in 1998, and analysts in 1996 believed SKB would make around 25p of earnings in 1998, whereas the figure was 20.3p, from which is deducted the 9.3p exceptional loss on the sale of DPS. SKB's share price was 344p in 1996, but it is currently over 800p.

BG joins the party with mega buy-back

Article Abstract:

BG plans a stock buy-back which the company argues is geared to cutting capital costs for Transco, BG's distribution division. The stock buy-back will be put to stockholders for approval in Oct 1997 and it is scheduled to be carried out in Nov 1997. Not all analysts see the buyback as related to reducing costs.
