Assessment of physical work load in epidemiologic studies: common measurement metrics for exposure assessment

Article Abstract:

A common physical work load metric, Newtons of force on a tissue, can be obtained from estimates of exposure from self-report questionnaires, trained observers, video analysis, work sampling and electromyograms. The common metric allows the selection of measurement methods in occupational settings. The application of Newtons of force on the estimation of spinal compression on auto workers is discussed. The results can be integrated to give an overall effect of exposure, regardless of the instrument used for measurement.

Skill-mix review in the NHS: use of a structured analytic technique

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the Hierarchical Inventory of Nursing Tasks (HINT) technique for adoption in outpatient clinics by the National Health Service (NHS), reveals that a quantitative and qualitative mix of paramedical services will help streamline NHS budgets. The health aspects of the patient are thus kept in mind while undercutting productions costs.

The impact of working technique on physical loads-an exposure profile among newspaper editors

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the possible associations between working technique, sex, symptoms and level of physical load in VDU. As a result, a good working technique is shown to be associated with reduced muscular load both in the trapezius muscles and in the forearm muscle on the mouse operating side.
