Before buying hugely expensive, untested sea base, think first: Analyst

Article Abstract:

A preeminent naval analysts stated in March 2006 that while the Navy and Marine Corps goal of sea bases that project power onto hostile territory is well decided, some of the assumptions and reasoning underlying this goals are flawed and there is time to rethink them. Robert Work, a senior analyst with the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a defense-oriented Washington think tank, dissected the history and rationale of the sea basing concept, as featured speaker before the American Society of Naval Engineers at a hotel near the Pentagon.

Lawmakers scorch marines over vehicle armor failures, deaths

Article Abstract:

High-ranking Marine Corps generals were reproached by Legislators on the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) for not up-armoring all vehicles in combat areas, a failure that has resulted in many troops suffering severe injuries or deaths. The lawmakers believe that the Marine Corps are moving very slowly while the generals say that they are moving resolutely to procure armor and apply it to any vehicles lacking the protection.

Marine Corps needs: Lighter armor, day/night vision, counter-IED

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corps needs lighter vehicle and body armor, light-weight day and night rifle scopes, counter-improvised explosive device landmines systems and a reliable hybrid fuel-electric vehicle. The Marine Corps will not need anything more for another 25 years.
