Biocontrol genome deciphered

Article Abstract:

The first full genome sequence of a biocontrol pseudomonad, strain Pf-5 of Pseudomonas fluorescens, is reported that helps in giving an insight in the molecular mechanisms of biocontrol and might accelerate the practical application of these organisms. Pseudomonads are a group of Gram-negative bacteria that can be found with plant or animal hosts as commensals or pathogens or protective microbes.

Energy well spent on a prokaryotic genome

Article Abstract:

A report of complete genome sequence of Gluconobacter oxydans 621H is presented which provides the biologists an understanding of the manner in which this unusual microorganism functions along with the role of incomplete oxidation in its physiology. This sequence suggests strategies for exploiting the biotechnological potential of G. Oxydans' biosynthetic and biotransformation processes.

A window on the dynamics of biological switches

Article Abstract:

Molecular biological examinations revealed that genes were composed of a region where proteins interacted with the DNA to regulate the production of the protein product specified by that gene, leading to further confidence in the explanatory power of gene switching a great deal of effort to deduce cellular regulation based on the interaction of proteins with promoters.
