Chieftain supplies insulation and makes pipes, and performed well in 1st half 1997, with a rise of over 100% in turnover and profit, after a recovery in 1996. The company was restructured in 1995 when Chieftain withdrew from fireproofing due to difficult conditions in the construction industry, and branches were shut down. The company has benefited from the strength of the petroleum and gas industries, and has not been unduly affected by exchange rate problems due to a focus on the North Sea.
