An open and shut case

Article Abstract:

German shopping hours are to change with a reform of regulations. Retailers and labor unions oppose the changes and have delayed them. The IFO, a research body, has called for stores to be opened to 10pm during the week and 6pm on Saturdays, and argues that this would create employment. The proposals may be modified due to opposition. Profits may drop in the short term due to increased costs, by chain stores are likely to see a long-term benefit.
