Article Abstract:

The limestone and glass structure of the MIT Brain and Cognitive Sciences Complex (BCSC) is an intricate work of architecture, resolving infrastructural challenges like heat-recovery systems, graywater recycling and stormwater retention. The 411,000-sqyare-feet complex is the world's largest center for neuroscience and comprises of 47 cross-disciplinary laboratories, a five-story atrium, a conservatory, auditorium, two multistory lobbies and communal spaces.

Quite a few U.S. architects have gone east to reshape skylines form Beijing to Guangzhou and sometimes even planning whole cities. The International Design Magazine invited several architects to participate in a round table via email to understand the challenges and rewards of working amid so much astonishing transformation.

London-based Grimshaw Architects have designed New York City's new automated public toilets along with 3,300 bus shelters and 330 newsstands. The bus stops and newsstands are built from 95% recyclable, pollution free components and have been constructed keeping in mid the city's needs.
