Breaching the skin's barrier to drugs

Article Abstract:

The identification of mixtures of nonirritant enhancers that essentially remove the skin's barrier to 10kDa macromolecules, which is a major breakthrough in transdermal drug delivery, helps to transform development of transdermal products, including patches is described. The query on how the drug formulation, or the skin barrier can be changed to achieve satisfactory plasma levels without damaging the skin that is susceptible to irritant, allergic is discussed.

Transdermal protein delivery by a coadministered peptide identified via phase display

Article Abstract:

The short synthetic peptide, ACSSSPSKHCG, identified by in vivo phage display, facilitated efficient transdermal protein drug delivery through intact skin. Time-lapse studies suggest that the peptide creates a transient opening in the skin barrier to enable macromolecular drugs to reach systemic circulation.

A peptide chaperone for transdermal drug delivery

Article Abstract:

Millions of peptides are considered to find a chaperone that ferries proteins across the skin using a high-throughput screen based on phase display. A peptide identified by in vivo phage display facilitates the transport of protein drugs.
